Travelling to Kenya

Entry Requirements

Most visitors require a visa to enter Kenya. The East Africa Tourist Visa covers Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda and can be obtained online before travel.

Currency

The local currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES). US Dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas. Use the currency converter to check the current exchange rate.

Climate

Kenya has two rainy seasons: the long rains from March to May, and the short rains in November. The best time to visit for wildlife is July to October during the dry season.

Getting Around

Nairobi is served by Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Domestic flights connect major towns. Matatus (minibuses) are the most common form of local transport.

Language

English and Swahili are both official languages. Learning a few Swahili phrases goes a long way — start with the language quizzes.
